Sleep Diagnostics
Snoring, fatigue, brain fog, morning headaches?
A sleep-breathing issue may be the missing piece—especially when it overlaps with TMJ strain, clenching, airway restriction, and chronic facial pain. The good news: you don’t have to guess. A simple, at-home sleep study can give us objective data and a clear direction.
At Restorative Wellness Center – TMJ + Snoring Solutions, we use a root-cause approach to evaluate sleep quality, breathing, and airway function—then build a plan that fits your goals and your anatomy.
What our sleep testing looks like
1 ) Comfortable, at-home sleep testing
Most patients start with a home sleep test you complete in your own bed. It tracks key metrics such as breathing stability, oxygen levels, and sleep-related events.
2 ) Airway + jaw evaluation (because they're connected)
Sleep problems often aren’t “just sleep.” They can be tied to:
- nasal resistance
- airway size/collapse tendencies
- jaw position and bite relationships
- clenching/grinding patterns
- TMJ inflammation and joint loading
That’s why we commonly pair sleep testing with a structured TMJ/airway workup (as indicated).
3 ) Physician interpretation + collaborative plan
When needed, a sleep physician reviews the test data so you have a medically sound diagnosis. Then we walk you through the findings in plain English and map out next steps—whether that’s oral appliance therapy, coordination with CPAP, airway-focused strategies, or combined care.
Who should consider sleep diagnostics?
If any of these sound familiar, testing is worth considering:
- You wake up tired even after “enough” hours
- Loud snoring, gasping, or witnessed breathing pauses
- Morning headaches, dry mouth, or sore throat
- Nighttime clenching/grinding, jaw tightness, or TMJ flare-ups
- Focus issues, mood changes, irritability, or “brain fog”
- High blood pressure or cardiometabolic concerns
- Unexplained weight changes or worsening energy over time
Why accurate diagnostics matter
Better data = better decisions. When we know what’s happening during sleep, we can:
- Match you to the right therapy (instead of trial-and-error)
- Identify whether the driver is more airway, more jaw/TMJ, or both
- Measure improvement objectively after treatment changes
- Reduce long-term risk from untreated sleep-disordered breathing
Frequently asked questions
Are home sleep tests accurate?
Home sleep tests can be very helpful for identifying sleep-disordered breathing—especially when interpreted by qualified clinicians and paired with a focused airway/TMJ evaluation.
Will insurance cover this?
Coverage varies by plan and by the type of testing required. Our team can help you understand your options and provide guidance on the most straightforward path for your situation.
Do you only test, or do you treat too?
Both. If testing confirms a sleep-breathing problem, we can discuss care options such as custom oral appliances, coordination with your physician for CPAP, and additional supportive therapies where appropriate.
What if results show severe sleep apnea?
If apnea is severe, many patients do best with CPAP-first or CPAP + oral appliance support (combination therapy). We’ll coordinate with your sleep physician to ensure your plan is safe, effective, and monitored.
What other tools do you use besides the home sleep test?
Depending on your case, we may use imaging and airway measurements to understand your anatomy and function—especially when TMJ pain, bite instability, or nasal breathing limitations are part of the picture.
How do all these tests fit together?
Think of it like assembling a puzzle: sleep data shows what’s happening, and airway/jaw diagnostics help explain why. Putting them together helps us personalize treatment and improve outcomes.
